Place of peace: Iskele

Iskele is a pleasant coastal town located at the intersection of the Mesarya Plain and the Karpaz peninsula. This town is located on the 18th kilometer of the Famagusta-Karpaz highway. The place, known as Trikoma before 1974, was named Yeni İskele with the settlement of Turkish Cypriots coming from Larnaca's İskele village. The area called "Boğazé", located on the Famagusta-Karpaz road, hosts many tourist facilities and fish restaurants and attracts the attention of tourists. Haravdi beach on the Bosphorus is used as a public beach. Iskele is the largest settlement between Famagusta and Karpaz and includes villages such as Bafra, Mehmetçik, Dipkarpaz and Yeni Erenköy. This region is also home to the Karpaz donkeys, which have become the symbol of Cyprus. This region, full of untouched beaches such as Bafra and Altınkumsal, attracts those seeking peace with its natural and historical beauties.

Among the historical and touristic places that can be seen in the region are:

Kantara Castle: Built on a steep cliff at an altitude of 700 meters, this castle dominates the surrounding plains. It is thought to have been built for surveillance purposes in the 10th century. Most of the remains seen today are from King James' additions and were used until 1525.

Apostolos Andreas Monastery: Located at the last point in the northeast of the island, this monastery is an important place of worship for the world Orthodox community and is considered sacred by both Muslims and Christians.

Golden Beach: Famous for its fine golden sand, this beach stretches for kilometers and is known for its calmness. It is one of the nesting places of Caretta Caretta turtles and one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean.

Panaya Kanakaria Church: This church, which has been rebuilt many times from the early Byzantine period to the present day, was completed in the 14th century. The mosaics adorning the interior walls show Jesus in the arms of the Virgin Mary and the five angels and apostles around him, and are important examples of old Byzantine art.

Ayios Philon: This building, built in the 5th century on ruins from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, is decorated with mosaics made of colored stones. The old structure, which was destroyed as a result of the attack of Arab pirates, was converted into a domed church in the 12th century.

Aphendrika: B.C. This ancient city, which has a history dating back to the 2nd century, is one of the six important cities of Cyprus. Near Aphendrika are the churches of Ayios Georgios, Panaya Chrysiotissa and Panaya Asomatos.
